It’s Very Hard To Find Something Wrong With The McLaren 720S Spider

The McLaren 720S Spider is one of the best open-top supercars you can buy if you can afford the $315,000 starting price, which can easily exceed the $400k mark with a few optional extras.

What you get in return is an extremely well-rounded supercar that goes like stink. The 4.0-liter, twin-turbo V8 that’s rated at 710 hp (720 PS / 530 kW) and 568 lb-ft (770 Nm) of torque and is matched to a 7-speed gearbox rockets it to 62 mph in 2.9 seconds and to 124 mph (200 km/h) in 7.9 seconds. Top speed is 212 mph (341 km/h), or 202 mph (325 km/h) with the roof down.

Since the peak output is available at high revs, drivers will have to constantly work out the engine to get the best out of it. And that’s not a bad thing, because it makes the 720S Spider very engaging. Moreover, despite the immense grip and superb cornering, McLaren has managed to achieve a great balance between stiffness and comfort in everyday driving. Sure, it’s obviously too fast for public roads, but you can definitely live with it thanks to the enhancements made over the 650S Spider it replaces.

As for the downsides, well, as hard as it may be to find something wrong with it, RoadShow points out that the stiff seatbacks make for an uncomfortable ride over longer journeys.
