Dodge Challenger Hellcat Redeye And Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE Go To War

Both the Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye and Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE prove that the U.S. continues to produce some of the fiercest and most over-the-top performance cars on the planet. Which is best?

The guys over at Throttle House recently had the opportunity to pit the two against each other in a clip that highlights the strengths of both cars.

Kicking off the review is a drag race between the pair. On paper, the Hellcat Redeye has the obvious advantage as its 6.2-liter supercharged V8 engine delivers 797 hp and 707 lb-ft (957 Nm) of torque. By comparison, the Camaro ZL1 1LE uses a 6.2-liter supercharged V8 with 650 hp and 650 lb-ft (881 Nm). The Hellcat tested featured an automatic transmission while the Camaro had a manual. It shouldn’t shock anyone then that it is the Dodge that takes an easy win in the drag race.

It’s a different story when it comes to the race track. The Camaro ZL1 1LE is right at home on a circuit and comes from the factory with extraordinary levels of adjust-ability that allow it to be tweaked to suit any particular track.

The best time recorded with the Challenger Hellcat Redeye was a 1:16.08, placing it behind the likes of the BMW M2 Competition, Tesla Model 3 Performance, Honda Civic Type R, and new Toyota Supra. By comparison, the Camaro ZL1 1LE recorded a blistering 1:11.12, almost a full five seconds faster than the Dodge.
